Bill Leys Article "SB-800 & Decks" published in Residential Contractor Magazine in their Summer  2007 Issue

September 6, 2007  Residential Contractor, a nationally distributed magazine catering to small builders and contracting firms, features local author and consultant Bill Leys latest article, “SB-800 & Decks” in it’s Summer 2007 issue. The article explores the ways deck coating warranties have changed since Senate Bill #800 became law. SB-800 lays out how alleged construction defect claims must be handled, by both the builder and owner.

“SB-800 & Decks alerts builders to be careful in selecting deck coatings, and to make sure they provide their client with the proper care and maintenance procedures that need to be followed. Manufacturer’s have placed strict limits on their liability for failing decks caused by faulty materials, and take no responsibility for failing decks due to installer errors.”  said Mr. Leys.

Bill Leys is a former certified Homeowner Association Manager, a licensed contractor and is the author of several articles on the subject of waterproof deck coatings, which have been published in numerous magazines and websites.

Bill Leys Interviewed by Residential Contractor Magazine in their Spring  2007 Issue

June 6, 2007     Bill Leys was interviewed for an article recently published in Residential Contractor, A national publication for the small volume production, custom builders and the major subcontractor trades.

Titled "Don't Fret the Deck", author Shannon Larsen reviews with Mr. Leys the builders and homeowners expectations of their decks, discusses the Desert Crete decking system from Hill Brothers Chemical Company, and reviews issues in terms of maintenance, resealing schedules and moisture management. "Builders, large and small, need to pay strict attention to the details and sequencing when it comes to building watertight structures. Properly installed metal lath deck systems such as Desert Crete, Excellent Coatings, Pli-Deck and others will far outlast the old conventional decking systems of yesterday." said Mr. Leys. "Builders should, when it comes to weatherproofing, meet more than just minimum standards if they want to vigorously defend themselves against claims."
